Record Your Screen in PowerPoint for Engaging Slideator Presentations

In today's digital landscape, dynamic presentations are key to capturing and retaining your audience's attention. While Slideator empowers you to create compelling video presentations, did you know you can easily integrate screen recordings directly from PowerPoint? This powerful feature allows you to demonstrate software, walk through processes, or showcase any on-screen activity, enriching your Slideator content.

This post will guide you through the simple steps of recording your screen within PowerPoint and offer tips on how to leverage these recordings for your Slideator presentations.

Recording Your Screen in PowerPoint: A Step-by-Step Guide

PowerPoint offers a built-in tool to record your computer screen and related audio, which you can then embed directly into your slides or save as a separate file.

  1. Prepare Your Slide: Open the PowerPoint slide where you want to embed your screen recording.
  2. Access Screen Recording: On the Insert tab of the ribbon, locate and select Screen Recording.
  3. Define Your Recording Area:
    • On the Control Dock, choose Select Area. You'll see a cross-haired cursor. Click and drag to select the specific portion of your screen you wish to record.
    • Pro Tip: If you want to record your entire screen, simply press Windows logo key+Shift+F.
    • Audio & Pointer: By default, PowerPoint records audio and your mouse pointer, so by default those options are selected on the control dock. To disable these, deselect Audio and Record Pointer.
  4. Start Recording: Click the Record button. You can use Pause as needed to momentarily stop the recording and Stop when you're finished.
    • Note: The Control Dock will slide up into the margin during recording unless you pin it. To make it reappear, move your mouse cursor to the top of the screen.
  5. Your Video is Embedded: Once you stop recording, your video will automatically be added to the PowerPoint slide.

Enhancing Your Screen Recording within PowerPoint

After recording, you have several options to refine your video:

  • Set Video Start Options: Right-click the video frame, select the Start icon, and choose how you want your video to begin:
    • In Click Sequence: The video plays when you advance to it.
    • Automatically: The video starts playing as soon as the slide appears.
    • When Clicked On: The video plays only when you click on it.
  • Change Video Style: Right-click the video frame, select the Style icon, and pick a different shape or style to integrate it seamlessly with your presentation design.
  • Trim Your Video:
    1. Right-click the video frame and select Trim.
    2. In the Trim Video box, select Play to preview your footage.
    3. Use the green marker (start point) and red marker (end point) to drag and define the desired start and end points of your video. You can use the Next Frame and Previous Frame buttons for precise adjustments.
    4. Select OK when you're satisfied.

Saving Your Screen Recording as a Separate File

Sometimes, you might want to use your screen recording independently or in other applications.

  1. Right-click the video frame and select Save Media as.
  2. In the Save Media as box, choose your desired folder, type a name for your file in the File name box, and select Save.
